26.4 million people are projected to become acutely food insecure in the first 6 months of 2023.
5.7 million people are internally displaced.
What does this mean?
— For someone to be acutely food insecure, their lives and livelihoods are put in immediate danger due to an inability to consume adequate food inputs.
— To be internally displaced, a person or group have been forced to flee or leave their homes but have not crossed a border to find safety- they have stayed within their home country.
Conflict is fuelling one of the largest hunger crises in the world, leaving people displaced and without a reliable source of food. Food insecurity continues to grow with 26.4 million people projected to be food insecure by June 2023 and 2.8 million children acutely malnourished.
To make the situation worse, the country is also facing an Ebola Virus disease outbreak in the northern part of the country.
Organisations such as the World Food Programme are providing food to affected people as a means of support throughout a challenging time.
